After having radiation I started having a little cough. Now it seems to be getting more frequent. It seems like I cough and can't seem to empty my lungs of air. Has this happened to anyone else? I mentioned it to my Dr at my last apt but he didn't seem concerned.
@tmmoore , It's here everyday but not all the time. It happens more when I take in a breath. My Dr wasn't concerned so I guess I will wait and talk to him some more next month.
@A MyBCTeam Member , I finished on 2/22/13. I don't have any certain time I cough. I was also thinking scar tissue. I guess its just another one of the many things we just have to learn to live with. At least we are living.
Of course radiation can cause some long damage! Depending on local, angle intensity etc...i was told by my radiology resident oncologist up to25-30% loss of lung function can occur. It went right through me and my back... Have pics to prove it. Remember skin damage, blood smooth muscle if on left side, bone muscle idont remember what all else. I dutifuly do radiation after chemo and surgery because I am not going to take hormone receptor blockers!....
I have a terrible cough. On my 16th round of radiation. The radiation doctor says no data to support that radiation could cause any respiratory problems, and since I have had it from practically the start of radiation, no way is it related. I finished a round of zithromax last week; no help. My PC physician gave me an Symbicort (inhaler) and some oral meds today (Benzonitate). Hope it works. He thought the radiation could possibly be damaging cells resulting in this cough. This lung thing frightens me. They feel inflamed and if this gets worse what then?
@A MyBCTeam Member since you mentioned to your Dr and he didn't seem concerned, I'm sure it is probably scar tissue. Is it a constant cough or just one the appears occasionally?
