Still Can't Decide - Lumpectomy vs. Mastectomy

Still Can't Decide - Lumpectomy vs. Mastectomy

Some of the discussions here date back a couple of years, so I thought I'd pose the question again. My surgery is 2/15. I have a 5-6 cm tumor in my right breast. I'm being told that the BS is 'comfortable doing either' surgery. The PS says I'm a 'perfect candidate for either'. He said I'd have great results either way. I already know I don't want a bilateral mastectomy. I go back and forth on the mastectomy or lumpectomy on the right. I am going to do reconstruction as… read more

Anyone else get a frozen shoulder? Did it go away.

Anyone else get a frozen shoulder? Did it go away.

I appear to have developed a frozen shoulder. It means I have difficulty unhooking my bra and my arm can get a a bit sore if I extend one of my upper arm muscles. In every other way it feels fine. I have been doing some stretching exercises and they seem to help. As I'm due to get a latimuss dorsi flap shortly, I see no point in doing too much as the operation will undo it all. I wonder if anyone else had a similar experience?

Did anyone else "lose it" months after treatment was over while being strong and positive while it was happening?

Did anyone else "lose it" months after treatment was over while being strong and positive while it was happening?

I thought I had it all under control. Then after reconstruction surgery I was upset all the time. Crying, angry, can't sleep, panicky feeling. This was months after treatment was over. Did anyone else experience this? What did you do?

What can I expect?

What can I expect?

In 30 days I'm having a complete hysterectomy and wont be taking hormone replacements. I'm 30 what are things going to be like. Also has anyone else struggled with being sick for a long time. I have been sick with a sore throat, stuffy/running nose. I break out in sweat with sweat just running down my face. I turn red everywhere and usually have to shower. My cycles are weird too. I dont bleed like normal or at all but do have discharge. Add on top of that the extreme fatigue and I'm at my wits… read more

Has anyone been diagnosed with a fine needle aspiration and then followed up with a core biopsy?

Has anyone been diagnosed with a fine needle aspiration and then followed up with a core biopsy?

I was diagnosed earlier this week after a FNA. There's so much information they don't have because it was a FNA and not core biopsy. All they know is that it's supposedly early stage/detected. I had a MRI yesterday and won't get the results until Monday and I will also be doing genetic testing. However, I'm also being asked to decide on what kind of surgery I want. The MRI will help, but want to know more about this… read more

Just swtiched from Arimidex to Exemestane - differences?

Just swtiched from Arimidex to Exemestane - differences?

I was on Tamoxifen for a year and then blood work showed I was in menopause. Dr. switched me to arimidex. Another Dr. told me to try Exemestane. So I recently switched to that. I have had horrible joint/bone pain, fatigue, really bad night foot and leg cramps on all three meds. Would love to hear from others on side effects, what works, what doesn't. I'm 52 and feel like I'm 90. I need to go back to work at some point, but not sure how I can when I feel so… read more

Reconstruction

Reconstruction

I am going on #13 surgery due to defects such as sunken chest wall, etc. I know none of these come out perfect, but with ever surgery I seem to lose more fat. He was using fat grafting to fill in the defects, but that did not work, so I go in and 10/08 and he is going to use liposuction. I honestly just don't know anymore.

So I am about 6 month cancer free. What I am struggling with is people seem to think you get back to normal like the flu.

Especially at work and with my teenagers. Sometimes I feel depressed. Emotionally its like a bit of Past Tramatic Stress Syndrome combine with a body that will take a year or two to get back to normalish. How do you deal with this?
