How Long Before Periods Returned?

How Long Before Periods Returned?

I was 41 when I started chemo and my periods stopped after my first treatment. I did TH and AC, lumpectomy, radiation, and more herceptin to complete a full year of treatments. I finished the herceptin last november and started tamoxifen last may. I'm 42 now and I'm wondering what my chances are of my period coming back. My doctor said I'm probably still ovulating, but I can't tell. I've had the opposite of vaginal dryness since starting the tamoxifen, and actually have to wear a thin panty… read more

It may depend on your age as far as switching from tamoxifen to a different drug. I was told i would be on tamoxifen for a year and if i am considered to be in menopause after a year i may be… read more

Who Has Returned To Work After Cancer Treatment?

Who Has Returned To Work After Cancer Treatment?

I am ready to return to work. I have had a stage 4 breast cancer reoccurance. My first bout with cancer I worked through half the treatments. This time I was able to take long term disability. I am going to wait till my next exam before returning. I want to have good news. When and who should I talk to to coordinate my return? How much information is appropriate to give them regarding my condition?

Does Chemo Cause You To Miss Periods Or Is It Causing An Early Menopause For Me?

Does Chemo Cause You To Miss Periods Or Is It Causing An Early Menopause For Me?

Hi, I'm 41 years old and was diagnosed with Stage IIB, Triple negative, Ductal Carcinoma in February. I started chemo on May 14th. I have completed my 4 treatments of AC and have also had 2 Taxol treatments. So far, so good. My question to you ladies is...I have always had regular periods till now. I didn't have a period in June and have done lots of reading saying that chemo can stop your periods. Will they start again once I'm done with the chemo, or could this be the start of early menopause… read more

Should I Have Lumpectomy Or Bilateral Mastectomy?

Should I Have Lumpectomy Or Bilateral Mastectomy?

If a single IDC tumor is found and there is no other risk, should a woman have a lumpectomy, a targeted surgery that removes only the tumor, or have a double mastectomy — surgery to completely remove both breasts? There is no difference in survival between the 1-hour lumpectomy and the 7-hour BMX (not to mention months or even years of further treatment if reconstruction is chosen). The chance of breast cancer returning is low after lumpectomy. So why do so many women choose BMX for a single… read more

In the past 18 months I have learned so much about Breast Cancer. I have realized that no matter what treatment you choose there is still a big risk of reoccurence. Cancer cannot be cured but it is… read more

Early Menopause...temporary Or Permanent?

Early Menopause...temporary Or Permanent?

Hi, I stopped getting my period 4 weeks into chemo. My hot flashes were pretty bad during my AC treatments. I am halfway through my Abraxane and Carbo..6 more to go. I read everywhere that early menopause is a side effect of chemo, but is this temporary or permanent? If temporary, when would I start getting my period again?

A MyBCTeam Member said:

Chemo goes to your head, but is not a gurantee of no return. I still have 20% chance of return of cancer after surgery, chemo and radiation. It depends on where the cancer was when it was first found… read more

Future Fertility After Chemotherapy? Returned Menstrual Cycle For Young Survivors?

Future Fertility After Chemotherapy? Returned Menstrual Cycle For Young Survivors?

Is there anyone under the age of 30 that was diagnosed with ER+/PR+/HER- IDC that had their periods return after chemotherapy? My husband and I do not have any children yet and we're hoping one day to conceive naturally. Any insight on time frames and experiences would be appreciated! I completed 4 rounds of taxotere/ cytoxan, and my periods stopped after the second cycle. I am currently 3 months out from chemo and am taking tamoxifen with no sign of a period. Before treatment, my oncologist… read more

Time Off Work

Time Off Work

Is 10 days adequate time to recover from bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction(expanders)? My breast surgeon says I should be able to return to work on day 11.

A MyBCTeam Member said:

Absolutely depends on one’s job,as well as extent of surgery. Fatigue may be a factor for months. Important to pace oneself
