Three weeks out of surgery tomorrow. I had to go back to the doctor today to get some anabiotic‘s. I have a small travel agent business and I’ve been referring my customers to a friend of mine. Today I had a good customer wanting to re-book a trip she couldn’t take in 2020. So I was on the computer for about 2 1/2 hours. Unfortunately my Mastectomy was on my right side, and now I am a little sore. My doctor didn’t give me any exercise to do at home so basically I haven’t been using that arm. Did… read more
Your doc should have given you exercises and you should be starting some gentle exercises by now. Start doing your spider crawl (stand in front of a wall and slowly walk your fingers up the wall - try to go a little further each day). Other good ones are to do shoulder rolls, and lay on the floor and do (gentle!) Snow angels. Also lying on the floor get a broomstick (or other stick) - hold it up with both hands over your chest and slowly raise the stick over your head and back. Try to go a little further each time. The sooner you get moving, the sooner you'll get your full range of motion back. A great place to do stretches (especially the spider crawl) is in the shower because your muscles are already nice and warm. If not do them right after a shower. 💕
My doctors had me doing exercises the next day after my mastectomy while I was still in the hospital. They had me raising my arm up above my head as far as I could go so that I could keep the mobility of my arm. It burned like the dickens but it helped in the long run.
Check with your surgeon, they were the ones to tell me what and when, as far as exercises go. They may think they gave you a print out of exercises, do's and don'ts! Worth a call to double-check! Hugs!!
