Why Are My Eyelashes Falling Out 5 1/2 Months Post Chemo? Finished Chemo 12/3/15 Abd Rads Completed 3/29/16.

Within 3 weeks of finishing chemo my brows and lashes grew back. Lashes came in full and long. Now they're falling out. WHY??!!

Fear not- there's a reason and it will abate. Lashes and brows are on roughly a six week cycle. For example, if you get your brows tinted, every six weeks or so they'd need to be redone- not because of fading, but rather, because virtually all have turned over in their cycle ( shed and renewal). This hair growth rhythm is staggered in normal circumstances, so that you have, at any given time, about 75% of your over all volume, and 25% having just shed or about to or in the early state of renewing.
After something so ubrupt and entire as chemo fall, you're naturally starting from zero. When all systems are a go again, EVERY hair, like in the case of your lashes, begins in the growth cycle, hence the lush and thick 100% volume. Trouble is, in their program, they all hit the "shed" button nearly at the same time, which indeed is alarming. Don't worry; it will regulate pretty quickly, as each hair is a little off from the others in timing; before you know it, it will be so staggered that you're unaware, but for the occasional lash on the cheek, just as before.

Any time!! No worries! We weren't issued a handbook for these kinds of things--one day the medical community will recognize the "UN-pettiness" of post tx fallout, partIcularily as we can become a little gun-shy about any change we perceive. It stands tO reason that we could use a little roadmap.

Glad I could help allay your fears!

Things like this are bound to result in an emotional response! I am so glad Karen is on our team to explain the whys-- but still,it is emotional!!

I am dealing with my nails. They are so weak. I went in and had gels done twice ( so over the past 7 weeks) . Loved it-- so strong and they actually grew almost too fast! But this week I had her take them off but not redo them ( it's hard for me to justify the cost) But yikes- they are so weak. Even super short, they seem to bend. I am putting on polish myself-- but I am not very good at girly things sometimes and they look like $@% !!

@A MyBCTeam Member you are beautiful inside and out!

Hugs, Roxanne
